About The Company
Qualcomm, founded in 1985 by Irwin Jacobs and Andrew Viterbi, pioneered the commercialization of CDMA technology, revolutionizing mobile communications and laying the foundation for 3G, 4G, and 5G networks. Headquartered in San Diego, California, Qualcomm India Private Limited operates as a key subsidiary, driving innovation in wireless technologies across Asia. As of 2025, Qualcomm employs over 50,000 people globally, with a significant presence in India focusing on semiconductor design, software development, and AI integration. The company’s Snapdragon processors power billions of smartphones, tablets, and IoT devices from leading brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, and OnePlus. Qualcomm’s portfolio extends beyond mobile to automotive (Snapdragon Digital Chassis for connected vehicles), PCs (Copilot+ PCs with AI capabilities), and industrial IoT solutions. In 2024, Qualcomm reported annual revenue exceeding $35 billion, primarily from chipset licensing and royalties, maintaining its leadership in 5G modem technology with over 70% market share in premium Android devices. The company invests heavily in R&D—over $8 billion annually—advancing AI, edge computing, and 6G research through its Qualcomm AI Research division. In India, Hyderabad serves as a major hub for PMIC, software, and systems engineering, contributing to global products like power management ICs for efficient battery life in flagship devices. Qualcomm faces competition from MediaTek and in-house chips by Apple and Google but sustains dominance through patent portfolios (over 140,000 granted patents) and strategic partnerships. Challenges include geopolitical tensions affecting supply chains and antitrust scrutiny in Europe and Asia. Committed to diversity, Qualcomm promotes STEM education via initiatives like Qualcomm Design in India and supports accessibility with dedicated accommodations for employees with disabilities. With a market cap surpassing $200 billion, Qualcomm continues to shape a connected future, enabling smarter cities, autonomous driving, and immersive XR experiences while adhering to ethical AI and sustainability goals.
