About The Company
Zoho Corporation, founded in 1996 as AdventNet Inc. in New Jersey, USA, by Sridhar Vembu and Tony Thomas, has grown into a global technology company headquartered in Chennai, India. Initially focused on network management software, Zoho has evolved into a privately held entity with a strong emphasis on developing its own products rather than acquiring others. The company’s mission is to create software that solves business problems, anticipates needs, and fosters growth, prioritizing customer value over short-term profits. With a workforce of over 15,000 employees and a presence in more than 180 countries, Zoho serves over 100 million users worldwide as of 2025. Its revenue, while not publicly disclosed, reflects its success as a major player in the SaaS (Software as a Service) industry, competing with giants like Salesforce and Microsoft.
Zoho’s journey began in 1996 when Sridhar Vembu and Tony Thomas established AdventNet in New Jersey, initially developing network management tools. In 1998, the company relocated to San Jose, California, and in 2000, it moved to Pleasanton, California. By 2003, AdventNet launched ManageEngine, a sister brand focused on IT management solutions. In 2009, the company rebranded as Zoho Corporation Pvt Ltd., marking a shift toward a broader suite of business applications. Sridhar Vembu, the CEO until 2025, has been instrumental in steering Zoho’s vision, earning accolades like the Padma Shri in 2021 and the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2019. Tony Thomas, a co-founder, has played a key role in product development and operations. In 2025, Sridhar transitioned to Chief Scientist to focus on R&D, with Shailesh Kumar Davey taking over as CEO, while Tony Thomas assumed leadership of Zoho US.
Zoho offers over 55 products and services, ranging from CRM (Customer Relationship Management) to HR, finance, marketing, and collaboration tools. Its flagship product, Zoho CRM, launched in 2005, is a leading on-demand CRM solution. Other notable offerings include Zoho One, an all-in-one operating system for businesses, Zoho Mail, a secure email hosting service, and Zoho Books, an accounting platform. In 2025, Zoho introduced Zakya (formerly Zoho POS), Zoho Commerce 2.0, Zoho Service Plus, Zoho eProtect, Zoho Domains, Zoho Projects Plus, Zoho Solo, and Zoho Start, catering to retail, e-commerce, customer service, and solopreneurs. Additional tools like Zoho Analytics, Zoho Desk, and Zoho Creator provide data analytics, customer support, and low-code app development. Zoho’s ecosystem also includes Zoho Workplace, a suite of productivity apps, and Zoho Marketplace, which supports over 1 million extensions. The company’s focus on integration and flexibility allows businesses to choose individual apps or comprehensive suites.
Zoho operates in over 180 countries, with a significant presence in India, the US, Europe, Asia, and Africa. It has expanded its global footprint with offices in strategic locations, including Chennai, Tenkasi, and Tharuvai in India; Austin, McAllen, and New Braunfels in the US; Utrecht in the Netherlands; Dubai in the UAE; Singapore (APAC headquarters); and new offices in Doha, Qatar (2024), Queretaro, Mexico (2024), Nairobi, Kenya (2023), and Cornwall, Ontario, Canada (2022). Zoho also maintains data centers in the Netherlands, Ireland, and Australia, ensuring low-latency services worldwide. Its global reach is supported by localized offerings and partnerships, such as with Savex Technologies and PwC India, enhancing its accessibility to diverse markets.
As of 2025, Zoho employs over 15,000 people, with a diverse workforce spread across its global offices and remote teams. The company’s private status means revenue figures are not publicly disclosed, but its growth to over 100 million users and its competitive positioning against industry leaders suggest substantial financial success. Zoho’s investment in R&D and customer support, rather than sales and marketing, underscores its focus on product quality and user satisfaction.
Zoho has garnered numerous accolades, including being named one of India’s best-managed companies by Deloitte in 2022 and winning the CRM Watchlist Award for Zoho CRM in the same year. In 2025, Zoho’s browser Ulaa won the Indian Web Browser Development Challenge, recognizing its commitment to privacy-first technology. The company has also been featured in publications like The Economist, TIME, and PCWorld, and its products, such as Zoho CRM and Zoho One, have received awards like “Best CRM” from PC Mag. Zoho’s milestones include reaching 100 million users in 2023 and celebrating 25 years of operations in 2021. Its solar farm initiative in 2019 and community support programs further highlight its commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.
Zoho’s core values revolve around customer-centricity, privacy, and long-term thinking. The company avoids ads in its free editions and does not sell user data, emphasizing a “common sense approach to privacy.” Its refusal to take investor funding allows Zoho to prioritize customer needs over profit-driven decisions. Zoho invests heavily in R&D and customer support, believing that quality software requires time and craftsmanship. Flexible pricing, transparent policies, and a commitment to community engagement reflect its dedication to delivering value without locking customers into rigid contracts. Zoho’s “Made in India, Made for the World” campaign underscores its global vision rooted in ethical practices.
In 2025, Zoho continued its innovation streak with the launch of Zakya, a modern retail POS system, and Zoho Commerce 2.0, a redesigned platform for online businesses. Zoho Service Plus, a unified customer service solution, and Zoho eProtect, an email security tool, address growing demands for security and support. Zoho Domains simplifies brand creation, while Zoho Solo and Zoho Start cater to solopreneurs and entrepreneurs. Zoho Bookings 2.0, celebrating its fifth anniversary, introduced AI-powered scheduling features. The leadership transition, with Sridhar Vembu as Chief Scientist and Shailesh Kumar Davey as CEO, signals a focus on R&D and operational growth. Zoho’s new tools, like Zoho Projects Plus and Zoho CommunitySpaces, reinforce its position as a comprehensive business solutions provider.
Zoho is deeply committed to corporate citizenship, offering subscription relief to businesses affected by natural disasters and investing in initiatives like solar farms to reduce its carbon footprint. Its support for communities extends to educational programs through Zoho Schools of Learning and partnerships that promote digital transformation. Zoho’s privacy-first browser, Ulaa, and its open-source contributions further demonstrate its dedication to societal good.
In summary, Zoho Corporation has carved a unique path in the tech industry, blending innovation with ethical practices. Its extensive product suite, global reach, and commitment to customers and communities make it a standout player in the SaaS landscape, poised for continued growth in 2025 and beyond.
